Our Volunteers Make a Difference!

By donating a small amount of your time, you help us give young families quality experiences with literature. There are many different ways to help. We can find just the right volunteer position for you.

Volunteer Opportunities

- BRight red bookshelf tender

Tend book crates and bookshelves as part of our Bright Red Bookshelf program. This involves picking up donated books and then stocking a bookshelf with used books.
Time commitment: one hour every few weeks.

- Nook Volunteer

Volunteer with families! We have opened a brand new family space at the Shops of Ithaca Mall called The Nook at Family Reading Partnership, and we need volunteers to be in the space and interact with families as they come in!
Time commitment: 1-2 hours per week preferred.

- Story walk laison

Be a Story Walk Liaison! We have seven Story Walks located around Tompkins County, and we need volunteers to walk the trails and make sure everything looks good!
Time commitment: 2-3 hours per month.

- Book Delivery

Deliver books to doctors' offices and other places in Ithaca and around Tompkins County for our programs that give new books to children. Mileage is reimbursed at the NYS rate.
Time commitment: 1-2 hours per week.

- Book Drive

Plan a Book Drive to collect used books for our Bright Red Book Shelf program. We have guidelines to help you plan and conduct a book drive in your community.
Time commitment: intermittently for 2-3 months.

- group projects

Perfect for girl scouts, boy scouts, college groups, etc. Label books for school giveaways, prepare books for babies born at the hospital, sort and count fliers, or clean and label used books.
Time commitment: 1.5-3 hours per time, as your group is available.
